Special News - Richmond Area Career Center

Denise Selm has been a Business and Technology Teacher at Richmond High School for the past 12 years.  She is an adjunct faculty member and certified dual credit instructor for Ivy Tech Community College richmond.  Denise finished in the top two for Teacher of the Year for the state of Indiana!

She is advisor to Business Professionals of America and participates in a variety of programs in the community to promote the importance of Career and Technical Education.  She has also received the Richmond Community Schools Teacher of the Year in 2013.  Congratulations Denise!

January, 2014 - Hoosier Hills

Three years ago, students in the Automotive Technology class were introduced to a Land Space Races team who compete at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats.  The students were asked to do some engine work on the 1932 Ford, and it set a new record.  Now the students continue to work on card for the Land Space Races, but also have begun designing and building a race bike for the East Coast Timing Association in Ohio.  Students in the Drafting class completed blueprints of the bike; students in Welding and Machining assisted with the framework; students in Auto Body did the paint and body work; and the project was finished with the performance engine work.   They have competed in several races this semester, and plan to compete again in May.

December, 2013 - Walker Career Center

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) students from the Walker Career Center were selected according to class performance to attend the Cummins Engine Lego Build.  This event took place on Thursday, October 31 at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Conference at the Indianapolis Convention Center.  Students were given plans to build modules of the QSK95 Lego model.  They had the opportunity to sit and engage with engineers from Cummins who explained the function and installation of each of the engine modules the students were building.

November, 2013 - Tucker Career and Technology Center

The Tucker Bistro opened October 9.  It is open from 9:30 - 2:00 Wednesday through Friday, serving breakfast each day and an alternating lunch menu of soup, dessert and muffin specials.  Each culinary student will become Serv-Safe certified by the end of October.  Special projects include working with the Kiwanis club, making apple dumplings; with Psi Iota Psi making cheese balls, and offering a special holiday buffet in December.

October, 2013 Southeastern Career Center

The Southeastern Career Center Diesel program is partnering with Cummins to teach state-of-the-art diesel technology curriculum.  With joint donations from Cummins Engine and Crum Trucking, our students are getting exposure to new models of diesel trucks and 53 new high end engines to use as they learn.  In conjunction with the new engines, they are also learning to use INSITE, a diagnostic tool that uses sounds and visual keys to train the students.  Cummins also makes available the Cummins Virtual College which allows the students to take classes online to receive advanced training.

September, 2013 - Walker Career Center

The Walker Career Center congratulates senior, Ellie Honious on her appointment to the Youth Advisory Council. The Youth Advisory Council was established to provide information to the General Assembly from the young people's perspective on issues that are important to youth in Indiana.  Ellie will serve the citizens of Indiana while working with her peers.  She is also involved in the National Honor Society, Robotics, Symphony Orchestra, Digital Photography and Marching Band at Walker and Warren Central High School!
